Sprouts!

Sunday, the sprouts were started to soaking. Overnight.
Monday, they were drained and rinsed often.
Tuesday, today, I have been rinsing them frequently. Here is a picture.

They have grown a lot.
Cassie bought the seed at the coop so I don't know exactly what they are. Something exotic I am guessing. I told her I wanted alphalfa but it is not only that. We will see.

I snapped a pic of Mishka and Dave's foot.

And, by the way, isn't it a good feeling to have the dishes done at the end of a day!

Good Night.

A Giraffe, a Horse, a Lion and a Sun. A Rich History. December 29, 2014

A changing table was made by Carl and Mae for Sharon. A generation later they made this changing table modeled after Sharon's for my baby, Eric. Now Eric and Angela will use it for their baby who is due in April.

Here is a picture of the changing table that Dad made for Eric when he was born. It has pictures that I drew when I was seven years of age carved into the wood. Sharon was a tiny baby and they needed a changing table. But Mom and Dad wanted it to be personalized.  So they asked me to draw something that they could carve onto the changing table that they were making for little Sharon. So, feeling happy that my parents valued something my second grade self made, I drew a horse, a sun, a lion, and a giraffe.

So here are a few pictures of the changing table that I carried up the stairs from the basement yesterday to prepare for our new little light of our lives.

I scrubbed it down and used some steel wool to spruce it up a little. I just love the generational history.

A happy lion.

New subject:
I soaked mung beans overnight, then this afternoon pressure cooked them with rice. Mmmmm. Here they are soaking.

Tomorrow I will add another picture of the sprouts we have going. Here they are just getting started.

Good night.

Gratitude practice and our new kitten

I dunno, this one is sorta crazy but I like it. Any suggestions?

I used a gloss medium for gluing and for the same purpose used Golden soft gel medium (matte). For glueing I like the gloss medium better.
I may cover the whole thing with the gloss medium.
Enjoyed using the oil based gold sharpie paint pen. It was fun.
Then I just want to show you my kitten. She is sweet. She just appeared at our house meowing loudly and insistently in October. I could not even find her the first day. But when I came home from work the next day she was still crying soooo loud. So I searched and saw her hiding. She was so afraid and hungry. So the next day Dave got her some food and she has lived outside in our garage ever since. But I do invite her in our house often because she is so sweet, and she is a personality. A bit aggressive and not used to being around people a lot.
Tomorrow she visits the vet and we will see what she thinks. I'd like to find her a home where she could live inside all the time. It's so dangerous out there with wild animals and cars and trucks.

Christmas art journaling

Happy Holidays!
Love you, sooooo much!
I am so grateful for you.
I am also grateful to God for loving and caring for us.
I am thankful for a strong mom, a dad with integrity. A husband with intelligence and kids with their own busy lives.

Another Check-In February 26, 2012

It is February. I teach third grade.  My kids are a challenge and I love them. I am getting the hang of managing a big classroom.
Why would someone who has teaching experience be saying this? Well, I had been a remedial specialist who took 3-6 students at a time and sent them back after a half hour to their classroom teacher. My district, due to diminishing funding and student census, changed my job to be a classroom teacher. They are vastly different jobs. The classroom has different challenges.  I will shoulder the challenge though.

just a check in September 14, 2011

Hi!
Just saying that my goals were too lofty!!
Today I plan to get to bed right away and teach reading and math well.
Maybe I will let you know how it goes.
There are so many things that go on in a day it is hard to write about it when you are in a hurry and really don't have any time at all.
So good night.

Declaring My Goals August 15, 2011

In a blog that I follow the author stated that she feels she must publicly declare her goals more often to be able to achieve them. And I think that is a good idea.

So, I am going to follow suit and do so. First I must disclose that I am an elementary teacher and am looking at the coming year with knowledge of the challenges ahead. And one of the more personal challenges is to be able to walk out the door on time every day. This does set the tone of the day. If I am on time I feel equal to all my peers. If I am late I feel a notch below. It is that simple.

Goals should be small and attainable. For this week my goals are:
1.  to work in my room for 8 hours tomorrow and be in the car by 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. this will include so many details I am not going to try to write them here.
2. to get all  the chickens cut out of cardboard.
3. to be completely caught up on laundry and ironing (thus having my wardrobe prepared for the beginning of school. )
4. to finish the preparation for spelling.
5. to study the math curriculum and by doing so prepare for the year. (Again, there are too many details to try to write about right now.)
6. finally, I intend to get to bed on time tonight and tomorrow.
So, good night.
